Govt spokeswoman: Hungarian border protection measures set example to other countries
Hungarian border protection measures have set an example to several countries in recent times, with Greece, Spain, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland all deciding to build border fences, the government spokesperson said near the Hercegszanto border crossing on Friday.
Alexandra Szentkiralyi said recent years had shown decisively that physical border barriers and fences were the most successful form of border protection. A position which Hungary represented alone in Europe six years ago is now becoming prevalent, she added.
The Hungarian government’s position has been clear ever since 2015: “we’re showing a red flag to illegal migration instead of giving the green light,” Szentkiralyi said.
