Government takes over project to link metro and suburban rail lines in Budapest
The government is taking over the project to link the terminus of the capital's number 2 metro line and the HEV suburban rail line running southwards form Budapest, David Vitezy, who heads the Budapest Development Centre (BFK), said on Friday.
The previously abandoned preparation process was taken over from the capital’s municipal council and the Budapest Public Transport Centre (BKK). The contract for the transfer of the design contracts and the obtained permits was signed on Friday morning with Katalin Walter, CEO of BKK.
The aim of the project is to create direct, fast, fixed-track access between the centre of Budapest and the southern suburbs, Vitezy said.
The government has previously allocated 4.6 billion forints (EUR 13.1m) of EU funding to BFK and the MAV-HEV consortium. The deadline for finalising the project plans is 2023.
