Government pre-financing EU Horizon research ‘threatened by Brussels’

The government is pre-financing research programmes of those Hungarian universities involved in EU Horizon collaborations, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM) said on Tuesday, adding that the move is to counteract "a discriminatory decision by Brussels" to withhold the related funding.

The government is providing 5 billion forints (EUR 13m) immediately, according to the ministry’s statement.

“Brussels is abusing its powers and punishing universities, lecturers and students…” the statement said in connection with 12 applications from 9 universities.
