Government official: Hungary stands up for persecuted Christians
Hungarians value solidarity and stand up for their Christian brethren in the world who face persecution or are in a vulnerable situation, Tristan Azbej, the state secretary for aiding persecuted Christians, told a conference marking Red Wednesday, the international day of solidarity for persecuted Christians.
The Hungary Helps humanitarian aid scheme helps those around the world who are suffering and aims to protect persecuted Christians and preserve their communities, Azbej told the event in Budapest.
One out of every seven Christians faces persecution in the world today, he said, adding that a total of 360 million Christians faced some form of persecution, exclusion or discrimination over their faith. Hungary’s mission, he said, was to raise the Hungarian and international public’s awareness this.
