Government office takes legal action against Budapest local councils over unlawful fee increases

The Budapest government office on Wednesday said it has launched proceedings against nine local councils over unlawful local fee increases.

The government office told MTI that eight Budapest district local councils and the metropolitan council had ignored a law that prohibits local councils from raising residential fees until the end of 2021.

The government office said it has therefore launched thirteen legality supervision proceedings in the matter. The increases concern parking fees, rent, municipal taxes registry fees as well as fees for the use of public spaces and hot meals for children, it said.
