German men wanted for homicide arrested

Hungarian police on Wednesday arrested two German men, wanted for homicide in their home country, on a train between Budapest and Vienna.

The men who were not carrying any ID were stopped and searched in Gyor, in western Hungary, after suspicion was raised that they were in possession of drugs, the Gyor-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters said on Friday.

When train police handed them over to the local police station to establish their identities, the suspects were also tested for drugs, which came back positive.

In the course of questioning the men, the German authorities were contacted to establish the suspects’ identities, and it transpired that an international arrest warrant had been issued in connection with homicide.

The suspects were detained on Thursday and taken into custody at the Veszprem County Police Headquarters.

Bavarian police said on their website that three 24-year-old German citizens suspected of a homicide in Landsberg am Lech came from the Landsberg area. One was arrested in Augsburg, while the other two suspects were arrested in Gyor.

The two suspects in Hungarian custody face extradition.
