Late on Tuesday, police wanted to control a small lorry driving on the M1 highway with Polish licence plates, the statement said. The lorry drove on and slammed into ten vehicles in the ensuing chase, it said. Police forced it to stop in Budapest, where the driver slammed into a police car before trying to flee on foot. He was arrested shortly after.
The 35 illegal migrants in the back of the lorry said they were of Moroccan and Syrian origin.
