Fight for the flag of the freedom fighters
‘The flag with the hole does not belong to the traitors, but to the free Hungarians fighting for an independent Hungary!’ – reads an official statement by Mi Hazánk, which was sent to the official news agency MTI on Thursday. It was written by the freedom fighter of 1956, András Pongrátz.
Péter Magyar had the idea of declaring the flag from the revolutionary days of October 1956 the symbol of his party, writes Pongrátz. The symbol of the Tisza party, which strengthens the group of the openly pro-globalisation EPP in the European Parliament. Similar attempts to appropriate symbols from 1956 had already been made by other parties after the system change, whose policies had absolutely nothing to do with the spirit of the ‘noblest anti-communist struggle for freedom in Hungarian history’. The Tisza party had misled hundreds of thousands of voters before 9 June, among other things with national slogans and quotes from the homeland poet Albert Wass, in order to join the faction of the corrupt Ursula von der Leyen after the European elections. This was treason, if not treason.
