Fidesz MEP: Europe must consider if time for green transition is now
Given the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on the European economy, Europe must consider whether now is the best time to implement the Green Deal and transition to renewable energy, an MEP of Hungary's ruling Fidesz said at an international conference.
A key question arising from the effects of the war is who will pay the price of the changes seen in food and energy supply and inflation, and whether Europeans are prepared to pay the price, Balazs Hidveghi told the conference organised by the Foundation for a Civic Hungary and the Brussels office of the Danube Institute on Wednesday.
With the European Union experiencing multiple parallel crises, it is in need of greater unity and sound decision-making, Hidveghi said. The stakes are high and there is no time for ideological battles, internal divisions or rushed proposals from the European Commission, he said.
