Fidesz maintains lead

The Fidesz-Christian Democrats have maintained their support, with 47 percent of decided voters favouring the ruling alliance, while the opposition Tisza Party has increased its backing to 29 percent since the European parliamentary elections in June, the Nezopont Institute said on Tuesday.

Fully 49 percent of respondents said they found Prime Minister Viktor Orbán the most suitable person for the post, while Tisza leader Peter Magyar had a 19 percent favourability rating.

If general elections were held now, leftist Democratic Coalition would garner 8 percent of the vote (unchanged since the EP elections) and radical Our Homeland 9 percent ( up 2 percentage points), the think-tank said.

The satirical Two-Tailed Dog party was had 5 percent (up 1 percentage point), while the other small parties, which garnered a combined 7 percent of the votes in June, would now be supported by a mere two percent, Nezopont said.

The phone survey was conducted between July 15 and 17, with a representative sample of 1,000 voting-age adults.
