EU Presidency – General Affairs Council discusses competitiveness, demographic challenges
The EU General Affairs Council on Tuesday will discuss European competitiveness and demographic challenges, priorities of Hungary's presidency of the bloc, Janos Boka, the minister for EU affairs, said before the start of the informal meeting in Budapest.
Boka said that before the new EU institutional cycle gets under way it was important to review how the rule of law and more effective law-making at the European level can help boost EU competitiveness.
EU affairs ministers will form three working groups to examine the details of the industrial plan related to the new European Green Agreement, chances to boost competitiveness by addressing labour shortages, and the financial background of new policies.
Demographic challenges will be the subject matter of a ministerial working lunch, he noted, adding that this “profound” area should be treated as “the third important transition”, alongside the green and digital transitions.
