EU affairs commmittee to look into ‘Left’s activities in Brussels’

Parliament's European affairs committee has voted to launch a probe into political actions by Hungary's leftist MEPs "going against the Hungarian interest" in Brussels.

Fidesz MEP Tamas Deutsch, the initiator of the scrutiny, said after the vote that MEPs of the leftist parties had “mobilised all their energy to harm their country” preventing Hungary from receiving community funding. But, he said, “forces launching attacks against Hungary’s sovereignty, the political manoeuvres of high treason in moral or political sense can be revealed.” Those “manoeuvres”, he said, “cannot be allowed to continue without political consequences”.

The parliamentary committee will assess “how the system works” and what “networks” Hungary “dollar Left” belongs to, he said. MEPs of the ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrat alliance are to “fence off political attacks based on lies”, he added.
