Energy ministry: Hungary electric car purchases see 3rd steepest growth in Europe in June

The number of green cars grew by an annual 123.8 percent to 864 in June, the third steepest climb in Europe, the energy ministry said on Facebook on Thursday.

Citing data compiled by European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), the ministry said the number of new passenger car registrations in Hungary rose by 23.9 percent year-on-year to 11,724 in June.

Hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles accounted for 44 percent of sales, cars with petrol engines made up 35 percent and vehicles with diesel engines 14 percent. Fully-electric vehicles accounted for 7 percent of sales.

In January-June, new car registrations in Hungary rose by 11.9 percent year-on-year to 63,337.
