Election 2024 – Karacsony: ‘We want to build a developing city with Budapest residents’

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karacsony, running for his second term as the city's mayor, said on Sunday that "we want to build a developing city with Budapest residents, this is what the current municipal elections are about in Budapest".

Karacsony told the press after casting his vote at the European parliamentary and local elections in Budapest’s District 2 that “those in power do not have a message for Budapest residents, only a declaration of war” but “we do not want to fight, we want to build a developing city together, with Budapest residents”.

He said those that support his programme should vote for the Parbeszed-Greens-DK-Socialists list in Budapest.

“Although I have a programme and a team, there are European Union resources available for Budapest to develop, the one thing that is still missing is a supporting majority in the general assembly with which I can implement this programme,” he said.

Karacsony said he had always viewed David Vitezy, the candidate of LMP and the With David Vitezy for Budapest Association, as a Fidesz candidate and “this has proven to be true”.

In response to a question, he said he could work together with any party that presented proposals serving the interests of Budapest. “I am very good at finding clever compromises and I will practice this ability”, he added.
