Election 2024 – Dobrev: Increase in number of voters expected

Klara Dobrev, the leader of the opposition DK-Socialists-Parbeszed list for the European parliamentary election, said on Sunday that she expected "even more voters", adding that "we will be able to show an even stronger political community".

Dobrev said after casting her vote in the company of her husband, Ferenc Gyurcsany, the leader of the Democratic Coalition, that the number of mandates depended not only on her party’s performance but also on the other parties. She reiterated that she expected an increase in the number of voters and added that the only strong, left wing, social-democrat alliance was that of DK-Socialists-Parbeszed.

She said “real opposition supporters” must not vote for a party like Tisza, which had not clearly distanced itself from “Fidesz’s candidate” in Budapest and not supported Gergely Karacsony for mayor.

Budapest residents have understood that there is only one opposition alliance, and it stands behind the candidacy and list of Karacsony, she said. Those that do not want Fidesz to retake Budapest and get stronger nationwide will vote for Karacsony in Budapest and the joint DK-Socialists-Parbeszed national list, she added.

Dobrev said that from June 10 on they would work at full force on “the Orban regime to fail as soon as possible”.
