E-mobility boom in March

According to the Ministry of Energy, the domestic fleet of electric vehicles exceeded the 75,000 mark in March. This is a tenfold increase compared to the beginning of 2020. A monthly record was set with almost 3,000 new registrations.

In March 2025, a new record was set for electric car registrations: 2,926 fully electric vehicles received green number plates in Hungary in just one month, significantly more than the previous record of 2,124.

The majority were passenger cars, which of course also set a new monthly record with 2,712. The previous high of 1,943 cars in February was thus clearly surpassed. Due to the strong growth in March, the total number of electric vehicles with a green licence plate rose to 77,400, of which almost 72,000 are passenger cars. There was another milestone in the regional distribution. More than 75,000 vehicles with a green licence plate, including hybrids, are now registered in rural areas. In January 2020, only 7,729 pure electric cars were registered in rural areas. The large increase was favoured by the company’s e-car programme.
