DK to restrict president’s pardoning powers

The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) will initiate restricting the president's powers to grant pardon from the time of announcing the elections to ninety days after the elections, party lawmaker Gyula Molnar said on Saturday.

One of the most important tasks of the next government will be calling to account people linked to the Orban government and the pardoning rights of the president will play an important role in this, Molnar told a press conference streamed on Facebook.

The party’s proposal aims to prevent the ruling “Fidesz-appointed” president from offering pardon during the transitional period to “thief Fidesz politicians, their family members and oligarchs,” he added.
