DK calls on government to give guidance on unused vaccines taken out of refrigeration
The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) has called on the government to give vaccination centres immediate guidance on what to do with vaccines that have been taken out of high refrigeration but remain unused.
“Due to a catastrophic lack of organisation and an appropriate vaccination strategy” some of the vials are being thrown away, spokesman Balazs Barkoczi told an online press conference on Wednesday, quoting a Budapest doctor who asked not to be named.
Plans had been afoot to vaccinate hospital patients and family members of health staff with vaccines taken out of refrigeration, but the current rules giving priority to the medical staff ruled this option out, the doctor said.
Barkoczi said it was “appalling” that large amounts of vaccines were wasted because central guidance was lacking, when so many people were waiting for jabs.
