DK calls on government not to ‘pull out’ of welfare

Providing welfare services is a state obligation which cannot be passed on to other parties, an MP of opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) said on Thursday, adding that the state must not effectively "pull out" of the sector.

Referring to a recent government-sponsored bill, Erzsebet Gy. Nemeth, DK’s shadow welfare minister, said that if the legislation passed “everybody, from private individuals through the churches will bear more responsibility for social services than the state.”

“This in fact means that the state would [effectively] pull out of providing welfare,” she said.
