DK calls for wage hike for teachers

The opposition Democratic Coalition has called on the government to raise the wages of teachers and restore their right to strike, an official of the party's shadow government said on Tuesday.

DK demands that teachers dismissed “unlawfully” should be given their jobs back immediately and those undergoing disciplinary procedures for mounting industrial action should have them withdrawn, Csaba Molnar, the shadow chancellor, told an online press briefing.

Teachers deserve a 45 percent pay rise on top of the ten percent increase proposed by the government, Molnar said. This would cost the budget an additional 285 billion forints, he added.

DK also wants subsidised energy bills to be extended to small and medium-sized firms in the service sector, in addition to those in manufacturing.
