DK calls for testing every teacher, school employee
The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) is calling on the government to arrange for a free Covid testing of teachers and staff in every Hungarian school and ensure notifying parents and students about every positive case, the party's spokesman said on Thursday.
“The government abandoned teachers as early as September and the situation in schools by now has become untenable,” Balazs Barkoczi told an online press conference.
Citing press reports, Barkoczi said that although six teachers with Covid-19 infection have died since September, no testing programme had been implemented for either teachers or school workers ever since.
He said that according to information by teachers’ union PDSZ, schools supervised by the state would hide coronavirus cases among teachers, preventing other teachers, the students or their parents from finding out about them.
