Deutsch: Sovereigntist, pro-peace majority in Europe growing stronger

Forces representing a sovereigntist, national, pro-peace and anti-illegal-migration position are growing stronger in Europe, the head of the Fidesz European Parliament list told public radio on Tuesday.

Tamas Deutsch said these forces were on course to form the majority that would be needed to upend the current line of thinking in Brussels.

He said right-wing forces from the Netherlands to Spain, from Finland to Sweden, were forging ahead in their own countries, and the “Brussels mainstream’ were nervously eying these election results prior to the June 9 EP election, which, he said, may upset the balance of power in the European legislature.

In the interview, Deutsch talked about the “total betrayal” by the European People’s Party, insisting that left-wing parties alongside the EPP accounted for 80 percent of the EP, and he accused them of “dictating in Europe”. The EP election may change this state of affairs, he added.

Fidesz and its junior Christian Democrat ally aim to win the election and represent national interests, and “to defend our country against the attacks that threaten our sovereignty…”
