Deputy PM takes over Order of St George aid donation for Transcarpathia

Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen took over in a formal ceremony an aid donation provided by the Constantinian Order of Saint George for people in need in western Ukraine's Transcarpathia region on Wednesday.

At the event in Mariapocs, near the Ukrainian border, Semjen said charities and churches were essential in providing aid to those in need. They know best where the aid is needed most and by whom and they are instrumental in its distribution, he said. Semjen noted that since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine 1,300,000 refugees had come to Hungary. He said the Order’s aid will be taken to Transcarpathia with the cars of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta.

Lajos Gyori-Dani, managing deputy president of the Maltese Charity, said the aid was worth 30 million forints (EUR 80,860). Part of it will be delivered to Ukraine and the rest provided for refugees staying in Hungary, he said.
