Defence Minister: ‘We’re ensuring peace for Hungarians with best equipment’
Visiting Krauss-Maffei Wegmann's (KMW) factory in Munich on Thursday, Defence Minister Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky said: "We're ensuring peace for Hungarians with the best equipment possible".
Hungary has ordered 44 “top-notch-technology” Leopard 2A7 tanks manufactured by KMW, the minister said in a video posted on social media. The tanks have been offered to NATO, but will form a part of the Hungarian army’s “heavy brigade” guaranteeing the country’s security, he said.
The Leopard fleet will be completed with Leguan bridge-laying tanks and other types of military vehicle, Szalay-Bobrovniczky said.
Cooperation is ongoing with the KMW factory’s management regarding additional services, including simulation exercises and maintenance for supporting “this ultramodern, high-quality fleet” in the future.
“For peace we need strength; we’re continuing our work,” the minister said.
