Defence minister nominates Ruszin-Szendi as army chief
Ruszin-Szendi will replace Colonel General Ferenc Korom whom the minister relieved of his post last week. Korom was relieved effective June 1 at his own request.
During his service, Korom oversaw the separation of the Hungarian army from the defence ministry and moved its headquarters to Szekesfehervar and restructured the armed forces. Korom’s term was to have expired on May 15, 2023.
Addressing the staff, Benko praised Korom for his achievements in the development of the armed forces since 2018. He said Korom would serve in an international diplomatic post in future.
The nominee, Ruszin-Szendi, was born in Miskolc in 1973. He graduated from the Zrinyi Miklos National Defence University in 2010. Later he earned a master’s degree in strategic studies at the US Army War College in 2014.
Ruszin started his military career in the Hungarian army in 1995 where he served in various commander posts between 2014 and 2019. He has worked in the defence ministry in various posts since 2019.
