Defence Minister marks 175th anniversary of Hungarian military

The Hungarian army has served the country's peace and security for 175 years, the defence minister said on Facebook on Friday.

Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky said “whatever history could inflict, our soldiers heroically stood their ground, giving their blood and life for the homeland when needed”. “The future will be built on that tradition; that tradition will give the strength and background to build a modern, digital army with the courage and patriotism of today’s youth,” the minister said.

The Hungarian military was formed by Hungary’s first independent government on April 7, 1848.
