Culture minister accepts withdrawal of National Theatre director’s resignation

Culture Minister Janos Csak has accepted the withdrawal of the resignation of Attila Vidnyanszky, the director of the National Theatre in connection with a serious accident in the theatre, the ministry said on Wednesday.

Vidnyanszky resigned from his post in the wake of the accident when two actors were taken to hospital and a performance of Romeo and Juliet interrupted after they fell down from an elevated platform on November 10.

The director withdrew his resignation after the theatre’s internal investigation had concluded that the accident had not been the sole responsibility of any person, the ministry said in a statement.

“A probe by authorities into the matter is ongoing in line with regulations,” said the statement.
