Country tour for clean drinking water
Members of Parliament Ágnes Vadai and László Varju have now embarked on a ‘drinking water inspection tour’ through the country. They want to visit places where the drinking water stinks, is undrinkable and has a yellowish colour.
The first complaints came from Klárafalva because the arsenic content of the water in the region is high. Although the government has apparently spent 5 billion forints on arsenic removal, locals in 14 towns and municipalities, including Makó with a population of 21,000, can still only drink arsenic-free water from external sources. As the money provided was not spent on improving water quality, the EU has called on the government to repay the funding. DK politicians believe that the Orbán government has stolen the EU funds, meaning that local people will have to be supplied with drinking water on a provisional basis for decades to come.
