Budapest taxi fares to increase 10 percent from March

Budapest taxi fares are increasing by 10 percent from March 6, with the basic fare rising to 1,100 forints, the kilometer fee going up to 440 forints, and the minute fee to 110 forints.

The City Assembly voted for the measure on Wednesday at the proposal of Gergely Karacsony, the city’s mayor. The representatives of the Fidesz-Christian-Democtrat group boycotted the vote.

The lifting of the fuel price cap from December 2022 has led to a marked increase in costs for taxi drivers, according to the justification of the measure.
