Budapest records significant increase of rent prices

Average rental prices for old flats in Budapest have risen significantly in the first ten months of the year, Otthon Centrum (OC) has announced.

The average rent for flats in Budapest was 260,000 forints (approx. 650 euros) in the first ten months, an increase of 10.5% compared to the previous year. In the larger cities outside the capital, the average monthly rent was 170,000 forints, only 2% more than in the previous year. The highest rents were achieved in Budapest districts 2 (350,000 forints) and 5 (325,000 forints). The 13th and 3rd districts (HUF 275,000-280,000) are also above average. In the 11th district, which is close to the university, rents averaged 260,000 forints. According to OC, the average rent for a one-bedroom flat in the capital is 180,000 forints, while a two-bedroom flat costs 240,000 forints and a three-bedroom flat 325,000 forints.

There are also considerable differences between the university towns in the countryside: Debrecen and Székesfehérár are the most expensive towns at 210,000 forints, while the average monthly rent in Szeged is 170,000 forints and in Pécs only 120,000 forints. In the larger cities outside the capital, the average rent for a one-room flat in the first ten months was around 125,000 forints, for a two-room flat 160,000 forints and for three rooms 200,000 forints.
