Budapest not on UNESCO list of endangered heritage sites
UNESCO has not included Budapest in its list of World Heritage Sites in Danger, according to a decision passed by the World Heritage Committee in China's Fuzhou on Thursday.
The committee earlier raised concern about demolition projects in Budapest’s former Jewish district, high rise construction, as well as the lack of monument protection and increased traffic in the city.
The committee will make another assessment of the cityscape along the Danube in central Budapest, the Castle District and Andrassy Avenue in a year’s time.
The embankment of the Danube and the Castle District were included in the list of World Heritage Sites in 1987, while Andrassy Avenue and its surroundings were added fifteen years later.
