Budapest-Belgrade line takes a step forward

Minister of Economy Márton Nagy announced on social media on Wednesday that he had successfully negotiated with China's ambassador to Hungary, Gong Tao. The negotiations concerned the financing of the northern section of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line.

Back in October 2024, Foreign Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that the construction work for the track on the section outside the capital had been completed with the laying of the last rails and that the work in Hungary could therefore be completed by the end of 2026.

The Budapest-Belgrade railway line is not the only infrastructure development in which the Hungarian government is working with China. Nagy had previously held talks with Jin Zhuanglong, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, on the establishment of a Chinese hub at Ferenc Liszt International Airport.
