Benko: Hungary defence spending to exceed EUR 2.9 billion
Hungary's defence spending will reach 1,003 billion forints (EUR 2.9bn) next year, the defence minister told a press conference in Veszprem, in western Hungary, on Thursday.
Tibor Benko said that Hungary’s increased defence budget would reach 2 percent of GDP in 2024, 20 percent of it to be used for procurements.
Hungary, a country “in the crosshairs of threats from the East and from the South” must have a military “capable of protecting the country and the region”, an army which could be a “dominant military force” in the region, he said.
