Austrian woman terrorises her own children

The counter-terrorism centre TEK, together with the riot police, rescued a 12-year-old girl from the hands of her mother.

The Hungarian police were contacted by Austrian authorities via the European Network of Focal Points (ENFAST). An Austrian woman wanted under a European arrest warrant on suspicion of abusing her 12-year-old daughter was believed to be in Hungary. In Austria, the middle son had fled from the woman as he could no longer bear the psychological and physical abuse. The eldest son had already left the family when he reached the age of majority. The middle son then informed the authorities about the abuse of his younger sister.

The investigation revealed that the mother had fled to Hungary and initially lived with her daughter in Vas County. However, she left her home a few months ago and went into hiding. Investigators discovered that she had moved in with a German man who held extreme right-wing and neo-Nazi views. The couple had settled in Türje, a small village in Zala County.

On 25 March, the police carried out a joint rescue operation with the help of the TEK. The operation went off without a hitch and the 12-year-old girl was found safe and sound. According to the police, the mother had locked the child up and kept her in undignified conditions. The police immediately brought the girl to safety. The 49-year-old Austrian woman is now in custody. The court will decide on her extradition at a later date.
