Appeals court reduces Dutch men’s sentence for drug trafficking
The two 23-year-olds were arrested at the festival on Budapest’s Hajogyari Island. Large amounts of marijuana and MDMA pills were seized from them, along with evidence of trafficking and cash, the court said.
A Budapest court sentenced the two Dutch men to five years in prison and expelled them from Hungary for four years in June 2020.
The appeals court said the facts that the two men had both sincerely regretted their acts, pleaded guilty in the primary procedure and waived their right to a trial had been considered in lowering their sentences in a final ruling.
The court has submitted the two convicts’ application for serving their term in the Netherlands to the justice ministry for consideration.
