Agriculture Minister in talks with Ukraine counterpart on grain transport plan

Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy held a videoconference with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykola Solskyi on Monday, and they discussed a European Union plan to establish a fund to support the transit of Ukrainian farm products so that grain in particular reaches target markets in Africa and the Middle East at competitive prices.

Nagy noted that the proposal for the fund was made at a meeting of European Union agriculture ministers in Brussels in July, adding that a joint European solution must be found to manage the process.

The minister welcomed a recent agreement between Ukraine and Croatia on the use of ports on the River Danube and the Adriatic Sea. Hungary, he said, backed fast-tracking produce to those ports.

Meanwhile, Nagy said a ban on Ukrainian farm imports to neighbouring countries should be extended beyond the Sept. 15 expiration date.
