Agricultural aid advances paid out
The agricultural subsidies paid, which are related to land and animals, represent compensation for compliance with mandatory production standards that have a negative impact on the profitability of farmers’ activities but are beneficial from an environmental point of view, the Ministry of Agriculture announced.
Due to the economic difficulties of recent years, such as increased input costs, high interest rates on loans, low producer prices or this year’s drought, it was of particular importance that more advances were paid out to farmers in 2024 than ever before. The amount transferred by the tax authorities is 64% higher than a year ago. The largest amount, 166.8 billion forints, was paid as basic security. The tax authorities transferred 48 billion forints as special aid for the smallest farms. A total of 25,300 producers received 26.1 billion forints in the areas of open-air vegetable and fruit cultivation, beef cattle, milk and sheep. Through the agri-environmental programme, 11,400 producers received 48.7 billion forints in subsidies.
2,700 farmers were supported with HUF 13.5 billion to promote organic farming. The preservation of indigenous animal species was subsidised by the payment of HUF 1.7 billion.
