Political vaccine wars continue
‘It was not enough for the Orbán government to stuff its beneficiaries with billions of Hungarian taxpayers‘ money during the coronavirus crisis,’ complains Dávid Dócs. The vice president of the right-wing Mi Hazánk explicitly names the manufacturers of the vaccines, the distributors of ventilators and the dealers of masks and Covid tests, as well as the Fidesz oligarchs whose companies were then supposed to destroy the unnecessary instruments for a lot of money.
Now there has been a new tender, which coincidentally only one bidder from the Netherlands was able to fulfil. Accordingly, Hungary is procuring Moderna vaccines in quantities of several 100,000 syringes for 4.6 billion forints (just under 11.5 million euros). Instead of investing money in the infrastructure of the healthcare system and paying employees such as carers decent wages, Hungary is moving further and further away from the goal of a healthy society with this business too. The opposition politician does not understand who these doses are intended for, apart from the fact that it was the Moderna vaccines that caused the most side effects.
