Tourism agency: Q1 guest night figures point to ‘record year 2024’

Hungarian accommodations recorded 7.1 million guest nights in the first three months of 2024, up by 14 percent from the same period last year, raising hopes that 2024 would become a "record year", the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTU) said in a statement on Thursday.

The number of guests grew by an annual 18 percent to 2.9 million, according to data collected through the national data service centre (NTAK) for tourism accommodations, MTU said.

The number of domestic travellers was up by 14 percent from the first quarter of 2023, at over 1.5 million. Travellers have spent 3.3 million guest nights at accommodations, MTU said.

Foreign travellers spent 3.7 million guest nights, 16 percent more than last year, the statement said. The number of foreign guests was up by nearly 25 percent, at 1.4 million.

All national indicators on accommodations have surpassed those in 2019, MTU said.

Accommodations have generated nearly 160 billion forints (EUR 411.2m) in revenue, up by 17 percent compared with the same period last year.
