Szijjarto: Hungarian investments worth USD 160 million inaugurated in Laos

The two countries’ cooperation is based on mutual respect and friendship, and it can be said without exaggeration that it is a real success story, the ministry quoted Szijjarto as saying at a joint press conference with his Laotian counterpart, Saleumxay Kommasith.

Szijjarto said the Hungarian investments will make clean drinking water more widely available, significantly increase meat processing capacity, and a uniform electronic identity card system will be created. Hungarian companies are building water treatment plants worth one hundred million dollars in Laos, and the newly inaugurated facility will purify 44,000 cubic metres of water a day, providing healthy drinking water for 250,000 people, he added. Hungarian companies have also built meat, fish and orange processing plants and three slaughterhouses worth 35 million dollars, expanding local food production capacity, he said.

He also noted that Hungary reopened its embassy in Vientiane after Laos did the same with its diplomatic representation in Budapest.
