Inflation drops to 2.1 percent

Consumer prices were 2.1% higher on average in January 2026 than a year earlier. Over one month, consumer prices rose by 0.3% on average.

In 12 months, compared to January 2025 the price of food increased by 1.3% (and went down by 2.0% excluding food and beverage serving services), within which fresh domestic and tropical fruit prices by 12.2%, the price of chocolate and cocoa by 10.0%, that of candies and honey by 8.2%, ice cream prices by 7.7% and the price of beef by 7.2%. Within the product group, the price of margarine lessened by 29.4%, that of canned meat by 24.9%, pork fat prices by 22.1%, the price of milk by 18.1%, that of milk products by 17.9%, butter prices by 17.2%, the price of flour by 14.8% and that of cheese by 8.2%.

Services became 5.0%, within which theatre tickets 19.2%, recreational services 14.2%, the transport of goods 9.5%, the repairs and maintenance of vehicles 9.1%, other public entertainment tickets 8.4% and personal care and health services 7.8% more expensive.

Alcoholic beverage and tobacco prices rose by 6.3%, within which tobacco prices by 7.5%. Consumers paid 6.2% more for electricity, gas and other fuels, within which 12.8% more for natural and manufactured gas and 1.9% more for electricity.

Consumer durable prices were up by 2.9%, within which jewellery cost 23.3%, motorcycles 6.7%, living and dining-room furniture 6.0% and second-hand passenger cars 5.7% more for consumers. Pharmaceutical products became 5.8% more expensive, while motor fuel prices diminished by 12.3%.

In one month, compared to December 2025:

Consumer prices were up by 0.3% on average. Food became 0.6% more expensive on average (an average 0.4% more expensive excluding food and beverage serving services), within which fresh vegetables cost 11.4% more and beef 5.5% less for consumers.

Service prices increased by 0.4% on average, within which motorway use, renting a car and parking cost 2.2% more and other travels 3.2% less for consumers. An average 0.9% less was to be paid for electricity, gas and other fuels, within which 2.4% less for natural and manufactured gas.

Alcoholic beverage and tobacco prices rose by 0.8%, within which the price of alcoholic beverages by 1.5% and that of tobacco by 0.2%. Motor fuel prices were cut by 1.5%. Due to the end-of-season sale, clothing and footwear cost 2.9% less for consumers.
