Hourly wage over HUF 2,000
The average gross hourly wage of skilled and semi-skilled workers was HUF 2,100 (approx. EUR 5.25) in the third quarter, an increase of 13% compared to the same period last year. This is the result of an analysis by the recruitment agency Trenkwalder, which analysed the wage data of almost 7,000 employees.
Highest hourly rates in and around Budapest
The geographical breakdown shows that the average hourly wage is currently still below 2,000 forints in three regions: Northern Hungary, the Northern Great Plain and Southern Transdanubia. In the other regions, this wage is between 2,050 and 2,200 forints, while Central Hungary and the capital are the outliers with average hourly wages of more than 2,900 forints.
Further growth expected
Viktor Hamrák, Director of Services at Trenkwalder, expects this wage growth to continue at a rapid pace in the longer term. The current economic policy objectives are likely to lead to a sharp increase in the minimum wage, which will have a significant impact on wages in the lower wage brackets.
