Guest nights up in November
In November 2023 the number of tourist arrivals was up by 13%, while that of tourism nights by 7.5% in total at tourist accommodation establishments. 75% of tourism nights were at commercial accommodation establishments, where turnover was 6.3% higher than a year earlier. Private and other accommodation establishments registered 11% more tourism nights than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 9.3% and that of domestic tourism nights by 5.9% compared to the same month of the previous year. Tourist arrivals numbered 545 thousand and the tourism nights spent 1.2 million at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 428 thousand tourist arrivals and 943 thousand tourism nights. 77% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 8.6% higher than a year earlier. The number of domestic tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments was up by 7.0% compared to November 2022. The two most popular tourism regions2, Lake Balaton and the Eger tourism region, registered 20% and 12%, respectively, of domestic tourism nights, while Budapest’s share was 14%.
The number of international tourist arrivals rose by 17% and that of international tourism nights by 8.9% compared to the same month of the previous year. The 502 thousand guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent 1.3 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 383 thousand guests and 964 thousand tourism nights, respectively. 85% of the latter were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 8.3% higher than a year earlier. The number of international tourism nights spent at private or other accommodation establishments grew by 14% compared to November 2022. Tourist accommodation establishments in Budapest accounted for 68% of foreign tourism nights, and the most popular tourism region was Lake Balaton with a 5.5% share.
A total of 18,747 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,221 commercial and 16,526 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 907 hotels and 965 boarding houses were open for part or all of November.
The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 43.4 billion, which was 15% higher at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend HUF 2.2 billion, 3.0% less at current prices, at commercial accommodation establishments compared to the same month of the previous year.
In January–November 2023 compared to same period of previous year tourist accommodation establishments registered 1.9% more, a total of 38.2 million tourism nights.
Domestic guests spent 5.8% less and foreign ones 12% more (respectively 20.2 million and 18.0 million) tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments.
