Guest nights jump in May from low pandemic base

Guest nights at commercial accommodations in Hungary jumped an annual 146 percent to 1,769,000 in May, rebounding from a low pandemic base, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Thursday show.

The number of guest nights spent by domestic travellers increased by 58 percent to 921,000 and the number spent by foreign visitors soared 523 percent to 847,000.

KSH noted that the number of guest nights was still 32 percent lower than in the same month in 2019, before the coronavirus crisis.

Revenue of commercial accommodations increased 193 percent year-on-year to 43 billion forints (EUR 105.3m) in May.
