Forint weakens to new low against euro

The forint hit a new historic low against major currencies on Monday, trading at 402.96 to the euro late in the afternoon.

The Hungarian currency staged a partial recovery to 401.37 per euro at 6pm, compared with 398.85 when markets opened at 9am.

The forint weakened to a new low of 386.53 against the dollar on Monday before firming to 384.48.

At 6pm, the forint was down by 8.8 percent against the euro compared with the start of the year and by 18.5 percent against the dollar.
