Szijjarto speaks with Russian, UAE counterparts by phone
Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto discussed the Middle East crisis with his Russian and UAE counterparts by phone on Sunday.
In a post on Facebook, Szijjarto said that in his calls with Sergey Lavrov and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan they had assessed the ongoing developments since Saturday night.
“I told both my counterparts that Hungary hopes that there remains a chance to avoid a widespread escalation of the situation,” the minister said. “But this will only be possible if all major global political players act responsibly in the coming period.”
“Based on these talks, I believe we Hungarians are not the only ones whose interests lie in preventing the spread of the Middle East conflict,” Szijjarto said.
