Morawiecki, Orbán lay wreaths at Katowice memorial

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki laid wreaths at a memorial in Katowice dedicated to Jozsef Antall Sr and Henryk Slawik who helped Polish refugees and rescued Jews in Hungary during World War Two.

Orbán and Morawiecki paid their honours after a Visegrad Group summit meeting in the city on Wednesday. The memorial was erected in 2015 and the square where it stands was named after Antall and Slawik in the following year.

Morawiecki told a joint press conference ahead of the ceremony that the V4 had “stood the test of time” and the grouping represents a powerful, united position in the debates within the European Union.
