Gulyas has talks in Germany

Hungary has a vested interest in maintaining its economic, cultural and political ties with Bavaria, the head of the prime minister's office said on Tuesday, after an official visit to Munich.

Gergely Gulyas told MTI that he met the Bavarian minister-president, the minister for European affairs, and parliamentary and provincial lawmakers of the CDU party.

The meetings were “definitely friendly”, Gulyas said, despite the fact that ruling Fidesz is not a member of the European People’s Party group in the European Parliament.

Hungary remains one of Bavaria’s most important economic partners, and vice versa, he said. Bavaria and Hungary also have similar priorities regarding many political issues, he said.

Gulyas said that one of the most burning issues was migration. Bavaria “has been suffering” from the failure of the EU to order its borders to be protected, he said, adding that the EU’s decision “puts free movement and trade at risk within the Schengen Area”.
