A double celebration for Malaysians
The gathering was welcomed by the Chargé d’Affaires at the Malaysian Embassy, Ms. Vanitha Gopalakrishnan, who said that, “Although we are far from home, this evening reminds us that the Malaysian spirit knows no borders. Together, as students, professionals and families living in Hungary, we proudly carry with us the values of unity, harmony and cultural richness that define Malaysia.
“The theme for this year’s Merdeka, ’Malaysia Madani, Rakyat Disantuni’, calls upon us to uphold compassion, respect and solidarity. This is precisely what we see here tonight – Malaysians coming together as one, celebrating not only our nation’s independence but also the unity that binds us.
“Furthermore, we extend our deepest appreciation to the Malaysian community in Hungary for their achievements, contributions and the pride they bring to our beloved nation, Malaysia.”
Ms. Gopalakrishnan said that to add some uniqueness to this year’s celebration, the event would be made even more special by continuing with a cruise along the Danube, symbolising the blending of Malaysian traditions with the Hungarian setting. “We believe it is a meaningful way to showcase the Malaysian spirit in the Hungarian land,” she said.
