The anniversary engine of Audi is electric

Motors have been built at the world's largest motor plant in Győr for a good 30 years. Their cumulative number has risen to 45 million with the latest anniversary unit.

In keeping with the times, this is a 220 kW electric drive, which – as the company emphasised in its press release – will of course also be transported to Ingolstadt on a ‘green train’ to be installed in an Audi Q6 e-tron. The history of engine construction at Audi Hungaria in Győr began in 1994 with the series production of the four-cylinder five-valve engine, and since 2018 the conventional combustion engines have been supplemented by electric engines. Audi Hungaria manufactures PPE drives on an area of around 15,000 m2 for the production of stator and transmission components as well as the assembly of the drives.

Dominant petrol engine

‘The outstanding expertise of our employees is now demonstrated by 45 million engines. Our goal remains to utilise our capacities efficiently and flexibly with future-oriented projects and to be prepared for dynamic changes,’ commented CEO Michael Breme on the anniversary motor.

Of the total of 45 million engines, more than 22 million are four-cylinder petrol engines, followed by more than 11 million four-cylinder diesel engines. The number of electric drives has risen steadily in recent years: more than 580,000 units have now been manufactured in Győr.

The age of transformation

For decades, Audi Hungaria has been an important pillar in the international production network of the Audi and VW Group. ‘In the age of transformation towards electric mobility, we need cutting-edge technology, in-depth expertise and a dedicated team. As a new member of the Board of Management since September, I have seen day after day that the production team, with its efficient processes and outstanding expertise, is equipped for the challenges of the present and future. We are not standing still, our next goal is the 50 millionth engine,’ said Peter Will, Member of the Board of Management for Production Drives.
